Well thing about your question, is that "better" is pretty much dependent on what you are into and want out of the console. The three main concerns of gamers & consumers are Price, Hardware & Software. I'm not as knowlegeable as I'd like to be about both consoles but from what I've gathered:
The PS4 is a more powerful system than the Xbox One in regards to the console's hardware and will more than likely have games that are more graphically impressive than those that are on the Xbox One. Ontop of that they have a bigger roster of first party developers meaning that they will have a larger list console exclusive games. Also due to Microsoft's mistakes in originally restricting Indie developers capablities & requiring them to have a publisher while Sony allowed them to have no restrictions nor required them to have a publisher causing alot of indie devs have chosen the PS4, meaning the indie game library will also be bigger on the PS4. The PS4's real capabilites won't be seen in multiplatform gamer but rather their console exclusives.
The Xbox One's strength though is in its online & social experience and its applications. Yes the PS4 is a more powerful system over the Xbox One, however so to was the PS3 over 360, yet with the PS3 releasing a year after the 360 and basically having a year to implement newer & better hardware over the 360 it was incapable of implementing alot of what the 360 was able to do and forced to wait for PS4 existence before it could implement 360's capablities. Because of this I believe that Xbox has better vision of what consumers will enjoy and new ways for them to enjoy it. That being said, I'm really looking forward to trying out the features on the Xbox One, specifically Snap, despite everyone making fun of it. That will bring a whole new leve of convenience to multi-taskers. Also if party chat has evolved to party viewing as I believe it has/will things will get even more impressive. Hopefully netflix party viewing gets brought as watching shows & movies with friends was quite entertaining. Also cloud gaming servers is suppose to take the load/stress of games to allow more things to occur in a game at once & provide more realistic behaviors of people & environments.
Another factor to consider when getting your next-gen is how social you are as a gamer how attached to your social network are you? Alot of people will choose their next-gen console by sticking with the brand of their current gen-console simply because they don't want to leave their friends behind and want to keep their achievement/trophy progress with them which has basically become apart of their digital gaming history record in a way, lol.
Anyways just wanted to let you know that your question inspired me to write a blog about my personal 4-Day experience, (good & bad), with the PS4...

In any case I'm sure you'll enjoy gaming on whatever platform that you choose to game on. However waiting until next year to decide might be the wiser past as both systems will probably be have frustrating issuess that don't get fixed until the end of the year. In addition to that launch games are known to be the must under-used capabilities of a console due to limited time & console unfamiliarity of game developers. So basically improved graphics is the main thing you are missing out on.
