I managed to have a day off yesterday, and had a nice rest, and got some jobs done. It will, hopefully, be a busy day today. I have just about had enough now, and just want life to return to normal, as things have been so hectic. I’m writing this on my laptop at work, using my old dial up connection, as it still seems more reliable than my supposed high speed connection that I have at home. I seem to have picked up a nasty virus, but unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to try and sort it out yet.

In Madagascar today they celebrate Republic Day. Unfortunately, food is in short supply, partly to do with the economic crisis that stemmed from independence.

Tracey Ullman, who loves Britain so much that she moved to the states, was born on this day in 1959. 

Rasputin was assassinated on this day… eventually!
            I’ve never felt the need to embellish on a fact before, but Rasputin’s death is extraordinary, so here we go…
            Grigory Rasputin arrived in St Petersburg in 1911 and swiftly became one of the most influential – and shag-happy – men at the Russian court. Five years later a cabal of aristocrats decided that his influence had grown too great, and lured him to Yusupovsky Palace, where he was to be murdered. He was fed poisoned cakes and wine then, when they had no effect, was shot at point blank range. The bullet only served to stun him, but he was captured attempting to make his escape. Despite being shot again, bludgeoned and stabbed, he still wouldn’t die, so the would-be killers tied him up and threw him through a hole in the ice into the Neva River, where his body was found some weeks later.
