Well I wanted to write this blog in order to give hispanic video game characters some recognition. Most people would say that hispanic ppl really are a minority in the world of video games, but to be fair, so are white ppl considering the fact that most protagonists and antagonists of video games are not even human. With that being said let's start the list.
5. Name: Screaming Mantis
Affiliation: Villian
Game: Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots
Why she's on this list: Screaming Mantis is easily the most powerful of the Four Beauties in the game and uses her psychic powers to keep the other Beauties in line. She possesses the powers to control both the living and the dead. Let's just say this IS one spicy Senorita. Her origins are from South America and being that her character basis is basically a combination of Psycho Mantis and The Sorrow, well to say it safely, I think cheating on a psychic who can also raise the dead would probably be the stupidest thing any man can do.
4. Name: Dominic Santiago (Dom)
Game: Gears of War series
Afiiliation: Hero
Why He's on this list: Dom has been the closest friend of the protagonist Marcus Fenix and was also the only noticable hispanic character throughout the game aside from Alicia Valera (who's only in the 3rd part of the series as a downloadable character). Unfortunately Dom dies in the final installment of the series saving his comrades from the Lambent, but at least we knew his sacrifice wasnt in vain.
3. Name: Carlos Olivera
Game: Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
Afilliation: Hero
Why he's on this list: Well, in the wake of the zombie apocolypse, it's pretty easy to see that in our large Latin American population, some of us would've had to survive it. That brings us to our guy Carlos. He's a mercenary with Umbrella who joins Jill Valentine in trying to escape Raccoon City. My only gripe with this guy was that he was used mostly as a trope character, having all the unnecessary cliches of a Latin loverboy who was more than likely only in the game to serve as comic relief.
2.Name: Jade???
Game: Beyond Good and Evil
Affiliation: hero
Why she's on this list: Well if there's onething that is lacking more than hispanic men in theworld of video games, it's Latina females. Jade is the most questionable person in racial categories in video games due to the fact that she could be anything from Latina to black to even Asian or Italian. Jade is the lead character in this phenominal game in which the only way to describe the gameplay is this is what happens when Metal Gear Solid has sex with Kingdom Hearts and forgot to pull out. Jade can also shut the feminists up when it comes to looking for strong femal leads who aren't in sexually revealing clothing considering that Jade wears what any woman could consider fashionable and casual on a sunny day (minus the excessive use of the color green, but i guess that's why she's named Jade). The soundtrack has a very Latin feel and calling her a Latina would be pretty believable considering her skin tone. Either way I suggest anyone should get this game because of its pure awesomeness in story, gameplay and character development.

1. Name: Vega
Game: Street Fighter 2 and on.
Affiliation: Villian
Why he's number 1: Vega deserves to be number 1 on this list for many reasons. If there was ever an unforgettable Latin character in video game history, it was Vega with his epic cage dive, his lightining fast speed and famous claw. It's cool enough just to be a ninja, but when you get to call yourself the Spanish Ninja, I think you're on hall of fame for Hispanic/Latin characters in video games forever. He was probably the hispanic community's first access to a character they can somewhat relate seeing is how he speaks Spanish (but unfortunately he is a villian and wasn't playable until the next installment ofStreet Fighter 2). Handsome, evil and just plain ruthless, Vega earns his number 1 spot quite easily.
So what do you guys think? Any other hispanic characters you think should've made the list? Opinions?
